Post-Long Run Trail of Debris

I was looking around my apartment the other day after I finished a "long run" (I use quotation marks because my long run these days is about 5 miles...) and realized that when I get home from a run ("long" or otherwise), I leave something of a trail not unlike the debris left behind by a tornado.  One look around and it would be clear to any visitor that either I am a gigantic slob or I just got back from a run and have no energy left.  And now, without further delay, scenes from my apartment, post-long run...

Shoes kicked into a corner (still tied), sweaty balled-up socks kicked off feet immediately upon removing shoes, and bag of misc running "stuff" dropped just inside the door...
Balcony chairs arranged to support perfect leg-propping position, empty box of chocolate milk, and abandoned ice pack slowly warming in the sun...
Beach-towel covered couch with pillow in prime napping position...

I feel like I could use these pictures for a lesson on making inferences with my kiddos :)

What does your "post-long run trail of drbris" look like?

  1. Amy, you crack me up! I'm also a 5th grade teacher and a runner and I LOVE your story! I can relate so much to you, but I'm in my 9th year of teaching (went back to school when my youngest was 4). Your enthusiasm for teaching and running is so inspiring! Do you share your running with your kids? When I've run marathons, I'll usually take Friday off and then return to school on Monday. My kiddies will ask, "Mrs. Black, did you win?" Love that! I tell them, "Um, no, I took 1,954th in my age group though!" LOL! I'd love to trade running/teaching stories with you and if you're ever in Utah, I can suggest some fantastic races you'd love!

    Happy Running!

  2. I don't run, but I have the same trail of debris problem after choir concerts - especially if I come home still wearing my uniform. I shed the shrug first (it's really, really itchy polyester); I often strip out of it before getting out of backstage and throw on a cotton sweater. The moment I get home, I toss it wherever. Honestly wherever. Then off come the shoes, which end up in various places down the hall from each other. My dress comes off before I get to my room (this gets awkward if any of my roommates has friends over!) and is tossed wherever I strip out of it. And my choir bag gets dumped somewhere before the dress. Hair things and jewelry are left on my desk, on the coffee table... wherever. Half the time, I don't even get beyond the living room, I'm so pooped - I end up sitting on the couch in my undies eating junk food in front of the TV.
