New Year, New Goals!

I'm not much of a resolution girl, but I love the idea of setting goals for the year.  I just looked back over my goal list from 2012, and out of 11 goals (school, fitness, etc.), I accomplished 7.  I did the triathlons, set the half marathon and 5K PRs, embraced the early morning workouts.  The exit slips I commit to using in math every year never happened, and neither did the budgeting or the cooking.  Oh well!

Anyways, here goes...In 2013 I will:

~Finish grad school & become a licensed reading specialist

~Stay uninjured (minus this lingering ITBS) and foam roll like a crazy person

~Run a race for charity

~Apply to have a Girls on the Run site at my school for spring 2014

~Spend less and save more (totally vague and broad, but I'll figure out a more specific plan soon!)

~Blog more :)

~At least try to find a bigger apartment that doesn't break the bank

~Donate my hair to Locks of Love for the second time

And last but not least, the big one...

Do I look scared?  Well, that's cause I AM!

My 2013 race calendar...
February: Disney Princess Half Marathon
May: Chicago Spring Half Marathon
June: Esprit de She Sprint Triathlon
July: Schaumburg Duathlon
September: Apple Cider Century series 37 mi ride
October: Chicago Marathon!

I am super duper terrified about even ADMITTING that I want to run a marathon.  See I'm not a big fan of admitting I want something that is really far from my reach with the possibility of failing at it.  On my 8 mile run today, I couldn't help but think, "How will I EVER be able to run 18 miles MORE than this?!"  But then I shut down that thought and reminded myself that just a few years ago, I never ever thought I'd be able to run 8 miles.  This time last year, I never thought I'd be able to swim THEN bike THEN run.  But I did!  That's what training's for, right?  Anyways, this should be an eventful year, and I can't wait to share my journey with you.

What are your big scary goals for 2013?

  2. I'm not much of a resolution person either but hat's an awesome goal! I love it! Early in 2012 I set the same goal and now in 7 days I am leaving for FLorida to go run the Goofy Challenge which will be my first full one! You can totally do it and I look forward to following along...

  4. That's a brilliant goal! I just know you'll rock it.

My biggest goals this year are to lose some serious weight (30-50 pounds) and to pay off about £4,000 of my student loans. Crazy scary!

    1. Ugh student loans!!! I was able to pay my undergrad loans off pretty quickly (about $20,000!!) because I lived at home with my parents for two years after starting teaching, but after I finish my masters in May I will have grad loans to start paying...about $12,000 yikes!!!

  5. Since you love books and running, have you read, Born to Run by Christopher McDougall? Novel/Running guide/philosophical journey of a tribe of running people and ultra runners. It changed my running style and I have yet to have an injury post change. You should check it out. Love your blog! Best of luck in 2013 and on your marathon.

  6. Love your goals! I can't get my hair long enough without having to go with a pixie cut for myself - not happening!

    My goals:
Run 5K by summer, and a 10K by the end of the year
    Daily Yoga
Get a chunk of money saved - done well paying off my goals, but its left me with nothing to fall back on, and I can't stand that!

My word/mantra for the year: Moderation!

Happy New Year! May 2013 be as wonderful as earthly possible!

  7. Great goals!!! You can totally do the marathon. I did, even if I had to walk the last 6 miles due to an ankle injury! You will do much better!!! Trust the training :)

My biggest goal is one of three: Run a sub-30 minute 5K, Run a sub-2:30 half marathon, and run the Sea Isle City 10 Mile Beach Run in under 3 hours (it took 3:40 last year - its 8 miles on the beach sand!). I don't know which will be the hardest to achieve but they all scare me a bit!

    1. Derp, the 10 miler under 2 hours (took 2:40), LoL. It was tough but not that tough! The fastest I've done 10 before was 1:40 (on pavement!)

  8. What a great race line-up! I've been toying with marathon thoughts myself, but I definitely want to get a few more halfs under my belt first. Good luck!

  10. Hi, I am a new follower. You can so DO a marathon ~ no problem. I just got back from running my first - well in fact I decided if I was going to do it, I was going to do it big, so I went for the Goofy Challenge. I was scared to death. Trained hard all Fall. Struggled with the last few long runs and really began to think, can I do this? Well if went fantastic! I ran every step and enjoyed every minute. It was the most amazing experience ever! Go for it!!!!!!!!!! Maria
